National Women’s History Project & Women’s Equality Day
The National Women’s History Project, founded in 1980, is a non-profit educational organization committed to recognizing and celebrating the diverse and significant historical accomplishments of women by providing information and educational materials and programs.
Their mission:
To recognize and celebrate the diverse and historic accomplishments of women by providing information and educational materials and programs.
An example of their mission in action- today the US recognizes Women’s Equality Day.
In 1971, to commemorate the 1920 passage of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution (granting women the right to vote), the US Congress designated August 26th Women’s Equality Day.
The observance of Women’s Equality Day not only commemorates the passage of the 19th Amendment, but also calls attention to women’s continuing efforts toward full equality. Workplaces, libraries, organizations, and public facilities now participate with Women’s Equality Day programs, displays, video showings, or other activities.
