What IS Delaware ?
Animals,
We all know Delaware is famous for some specific animals. We have groundhogs (WhistlePigs), Canada Geese at all our golf courses, Foxes in hunt country, gulls at the beach and of course, muskrat for dinner!
We recognize certain animals as special in Delaware:
State Bird: Blue Hen

State Fish: Weakfish
See nothing in particular since there is little mention of weakfish in and around Delaware. Its other name, Sea Trout, is how this fish is known in Delaware. From WikiP:
The head and back of this fish is dark brown in color with a greenish tinge. The sides have a faint silvery hue with dusky specks, and the belly is white. The origin of its name is based on the weakness of the mouth muscles, which often cause a hook to tear free, allowing the fish to escape. The weakfish grows to 1 m (3 feet) in length and 8.7 kg (19 pounds 2 ounces) in weight. It is found along the eastern coast of North America from Nova Scotia, Canada to northern Florida, where it is fished both commercially and recreationally.
State Marine Animal: Horseshoe Crab
This animal is so popular in Delaware that we have almost destroyed it. Many (and here we are talking millions) of migratory birds rely on the eggs of the Horseshoe Crab for sustenance on the long trip up and down the East Coast. The numbers of these birds are dwindling along with the habitat and population of Horseshoe Crabs. The fisherman want no limit on the Horseshoe Crab catch so they can be the ones to catch the very last one! The builders in Delaware want to be the one to build a McMansion on the last nesting spot for the Horseshoe Crab. Yes, we love our Horseshoe Crabs in Delaware.
