Veteran Owned Small Business Roundtable Hosted by Carper, Coons, and the Delaware SBA
Members of our armed forces are used to managing risk and operating in stressful environments. They are accustomed to constantly changing roles and responsibilities in areas like operations, planning and logistics. Most of all, they are mission-driven, disciplined and focused. These traits not only describe outstanding service members; they also define successful entrepreneurs.
One out of every 10 small businesses in America is started by a vet. These companies employ nearly 6 million workers and generate more than $1.2 trillion in receipts. This is a talent pool we must nurture. And that’s exactly what the SBA is doing by reducing small business loan fees to zero for veterans and eligible family members, by expanding the Boots to Business program, by investing in our women veterans through our VWISE program, and by funding Veterans Business Outreach Centers that help our heroes develop strong business plans to get their ventures off the ground.
Senator Carper, Senator Coons, and the SBA will host a Roundtable discussion with Veteran business owners and entrepreneurs from around the state on November 10 in Dover. All military services, and a variety of businesses will be represented.

In attendance will be veterans who recently attended the SBA’s ‘Boots to Business’ program. A two day intensive course on how to start a business, this program is offered to all members departing the military.
The U.S Small Business Administration (SBA) guaranteed financing or provided other services to most of the businesses in attendance.
“This is a great example of how the SBA loan guarantee and other SBA services help a business to start, grow and succeed. The businesses here in this room employ well over 220 Delawareans. It is unlikely this would have been possible without the backing of the SBA. We are fortunate to have Veteran entrepreneurs that utilize the leadership skills and work ethic they developed in the military to create new businesses,” said John Fleming, SBA Delaware district director and a U.S. Marine veteran.
