USA Basketball Women’s National Team to play at University of Delaware on Sept. 11

The USA Basketball Women’s National Team — possibly including Delaware’s own Elena Delle Donne — will be playing an intra-squad game at the University of Delaware on Sept. 11 as part of the team’s exhibition schedule. The game will be televised on ESPN2, and will feature the top players in the nation, as well as the head coach, Geno Auriemma, who will lead the team in the upcoming World Championship.

The Delaware Sports Commission was instrumental in bringing the game to The Bob, which is quickly becoming a showcase venue for basketball, having hosted the first- and second-round games of the 2013 NCAA Women’s Basketball Division I Championship, along with a WNBA exhibition game between the Chicago Sky and the Washington Mystics this past May. Those two events — both sell-outs — were also made possible through DSC efforts.

Delle Donne is on the Team USA Roster and will be part of the intra-squad matchup in September unless her team is playing in the WNBA Finals.
