U.S. Supreme Court fails to protect personal property
This is such a huge blow to personal property rights- individuals and business alike.
I can’t help but feel betrayed by the very government who is supposed to protect us.
As reported on Bloomberg.com–
The justices today said government agencies can constitutionally take property in the name of economic development and increased tax receipts, as long as they pay compensation to the owners. The 5-4 ruling came in a case involving land near a Pfizer Corp. plant in Connecticut.
Notice that there’s nothing about “fair” value for the owner here. That means the cost of comparable dwelling or office, moving expenses, and probably everything else you can think of doesn’t come into the equation. Not to mention intangible value.
But hey, It’s not stealing if they pay for it, right?
If someone can explain how this is not a travesty of justice, please comment.

It may be time for a revolution. Vote the suckers out. If that does not work, abolish Congress and establish
a new government that is truly of the people, by the people and FOR the people.
Vive la Revolution !

I’m a Libertarian and a strong supporter of free trade and the right of corporations to due business without being unnecessarily impeded by oppressive and exorbitant government regulation. That being said my primary concern as a Libertarian are the rights of the individual guaranteed in the Constitution. With the recent influx of former corporate leaders and CEOs into government, including of course both the President and Vice President, the pendulum seems to be swinging back and taking us into a very dangerous area where corporate rights could begin to trump those of the individual. In the Gettysburg Address Abraham Lincoln assured us that a government of the people, by the people, and for the people would not perish from the earth. Unfortunately it now seems a government of the corporation, by the corporation, and for the corporation is rising to subjugate the rights or the individual and reduce free citizens to fleeced shareholders with only minimal input into how laws and the Constitution are enforced. The recent ruling the Court is unconscionable under the standards set forth in the Fifth Amendment of the Constitution. It is shameful that our judiciary needs to be reminded that this country was founded under the principle that people have the right to protect their lives, their liberty, and their lands and that it is the sworn duty of government officials to stand up for these rights.
