TS Smith & Sons Hosting Second Tribute to Customers

What do you do when you throw a party and everyone has a great time? You throw another! For the second year in a row, TS Smith and Sons is hosting a Customer Appreciation Day that features a variety of free entertainment and activities for the pubic to enjoy at their farm market and throughout the farm on Saturday, August 11, 2012 from 10 AM to 4 PM.

Good times are free for the taking

To celebrate, several things to offered at no cost throughout the day. Live entertainment will be provided by three bands and serve as a back drop to the day’s events. From 10 AM to 12, the Delmarva Ramblers take the stage with their popular line up of bluegrass and gospel hits. From Noon to 2 PM, the talented Matt Lafferty will play popular tunes everyone knows and loves. From 2 PM to 4 PM, TriPolar , featuring Delaware’s funkiest farmer Charlie Smith on bass, will entertain the crowd with their own eclectic blend of classic rock and blues.

The public will enjoy meeting the farmers who grow their food when the wagons pull out for the ever-popular farm tours that depart on the hour. Farm tours highlight the farm’s history, it’s sustainable growing practices and solar powered operation, as well as the crops in production. For those seeking a different thrill, horse drawn wagon rides will be provided by Representative Dave Wilson. Trivia questions will earn participants prizes and the kids can bounce to the beat on the moon bounce. The farm’s beekeeper, Mr. Quillen, will be on hand with a demonstration bee hive and to answer questions about the bees and their role on the farm. Samples and recipes will be available throughout the day.

A variety of farm fresh food options available

With all this fun on the farm, people are bound to get hungry. There’s something to suit everyone during the event. Abbotts Grill from Milford will be on hand with a variety of food cooked on site, along with refreshing drinks to quench everyone’s thirst. Several items on the menu feature TS Smith fruits and vegetables. The Felton Community Fire Company will be back for the second year with their homemade ice cream, including their popular peach ice cream made fresh with TS Smith peaches! For those who want to stock up on the season’s best peaches, you-pick will be offered from 8 AM to 4 PM. The farm market will offer a full sampling of fresh produce just picked from the farm’s fields: peaches, nectarines, sweet corn, melons, cantaloupes, apples, squash, peppers, and more. Throughout the farm market, traditional farm favorites will be available, such as the apple cider doughnuts that are baked fresh daily.

TS Smith & Sons is also celebrating their 105th year of continuous operation and place as Delaware’s oldest peach, nectarine, and apple producer. Recently awarded the US Small Business Administration’s Family Owned Business of the Year Award for Delaware, the fourth generation farmers and brothers at TS Smith know it takes the loyal support of their customers to keep a family farm in operation.
Matt Smith sums it up by saying, “Saturday’s event celebrates the customers who make the choice to support their local family farm. It’s going to be another great party!”
