State Farm awards $11,500 Grant to Junior Achievement of Delaware
State Farm® has awarded Junior Achievement of Delaware with an $11,500 grant for State Farm to continue to serve as a Brand Partner at the Junior Achievement campus in Wilmington, Delaware. Through State Farm’s Good Neighbor Citizenship Company Grants, State Farm makes it their business to be like a good neighbor, helping to build safer, stronger and better educated communities across the United States.
Of the total grant, $10,000 is specific to JA Finance Park, a fully-interactive, real life simulation experience of being an adult, which allows students to build a foundation of intelligent, personal financial decision making skills. Students visit JA Finance Park after completing a four-week, teacher-led Junior Achievement course. When they arrive on site, students receive a life scenario, including a job, salary, and family situation, to use as the basis of their simulation experience. With their “real-life” personas, they learn how to construct and adhere to a personal budget—including housing and food, savings, transportation, entertainment, health care and maintenance, utilities, clothing, and education. This eye-opening experience gives students a solid foundation on which to build effective personal financial habits for life. The balance supports the JA BizTown simulation, where 5th grade students take on adult jobs and run an entire economy.
“State Farm® believes all children deserve access to a quality education that will allow them to reach their greatest potential, help them become good community citizens, and prepare them for the workforce. Our support goes to programs that provide students the instruction, resources, and support they need to succeed,” said Erin Bailey, State Farm Community Specialist. “We are proud of our relationship with Junior Achievement of Delaware, Inc. as together we enhance the education and future of our young people.”
Through State Farm’s dedicated support of Junior Achievement of Delaware for the last decade, championed by Sales Leader and JA of Delaware board member Tommy Taylor, key local State Farm agents have joined the JA family over the years as well, especially Rob Mullen, Abby Pubusky, and Bill Burris, who have made generous donations to sponsor State Farm in JA BizTown and volunteer with the students.
