SBA Sponsors Women-Owned Small Business Conference

The U.S. Small Business Administration’s (SBA) Delaware District Office is sponsoring a workshop for women-owned small business owners interested in competing for federal contracts. The workshop will focus on the opportunities created by the new Women-owned Small Business (WOSB) and the Economically Disadvantaged Women-owned Small Business (EDWOSB) programs.

Attendees of this conference in Wilmington will learn:

  • Details of the WOSB and EDWOSB programs and certification.
  • Eligibility criteria.
  • How to leverage your certification status to access a greater share of federal contracting dollars.
  • Meet other small business owners for potential teaming opportunities.
  • Diane Neal, assistant director of SBA’s Office of Contract Assistance is the keynote speaker and will provide insight into the new women’s contracting programs and how women entrepreneurs can get their fair share of federal contracts.

    “SBA’s new WOSB and EDWOSB programs will allow women to have a fair playing field when they compete for federal contracts,” said Jayne Armstrong, district director of the Delaware district office of the SBA. “The SBA is proud to assist women small business owners as they diversify their businesses into the federal contracting arena,” Armstrong continued.

    The workshop will be held on Friday, November 18, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Theatre N, The Nemours Building, 1007 North Orange Street in Wilmington.

    The SBA‘s mission is to maintain and strengthen the nation’s economy by aiding, counseling, assisting and protecting the interests of small businesses and by providing loan guarantees through private sector lenders to help qualified small businesses secure financing on reasonable terms. It offers counseling and training through its resource partners: the Small Business Technology and Development Center, SCORE, and the YWCA Delaware Center for Women’s Entrepreneurship. Additionally, the SBA provides assistance with contracting, surety bonding, and disaster recovery.
