Rohm and Haas Agrees to be Acquired by Dow Chemical
Shareholders of Rhome and Haas, a specialty chemical maker incorporated in Delaware, with operations in Newark, approved the acquisition of the company by Dow Chemical. Dow will retain the name and use it on the resulting $13 Billion specialty materials company.
Rhome and Haas is headquartered in Philadelphia and the Newark operations have been a good neighbor. For the last four years Rohm and Haas has sponsored the Newark Community Partnership Grant. Last year the amount was $30,000.
No word yet on any cutbacks or consolidation of functions that would reduce employment in Delaware.
In another chemical industry takeover, Hurcules Inc. shareholders will vote on whether to sell the company to Ashland Inc. on Wednesday. This deal has been buffeted by the financial storm blowing down Wall Street.
