Protecting Your Workers from Influenza
Delaware’s first confirmed case of influenza for 2008-2009 flu season has been diagnosed at the State lab. The victim was
A 6 year-old child from New Castle County was confirmed with type B influenza Oct. 31 by the Delaware Public Health Laboratory. A 26 year-old Wilmington resident has been confirmed with influenza, with test results on the strain pending.
The workplace is one of the places where the flu virus can spread quickly and easily. Therefore it is in the best interests of employers to provide easy access to flu shots. If you have not already arranged to have your insurer or health care center come in to inoculate your workforce, you may want to encourage them to attend one of the State’s free and unique flu shot events. These events are modeled on some innovative inoculation efforts developed in Maryland.
The first of these will be a drive-through event, held at the New Castle County Vehicle Inspection Lanes in New Castle Delaware on November 12 from 7:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.
The second event will be held on November 19 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Modern Maturity Center, 1121 Forrest Ave., Dover. This event will offer car side service as well.
DHSS would like to thank the members of the Immunization Coalition of Delaware for supporting this effort.
The Coalition’s 77 members include the Delaware Medical Society, pharmaceutical manufacturer representatives, University of Delaware Health Services, hospitals, and a cross-section of community partners.
Another option is to attend a private flu shot event. You can locate events in your area by using the American Lung Association flu clinic locater (here).
