On the Other End of the Phone

If we have one thing in abundance in Delaware, it’s call centers. This link goes out on behalf of all those people who answer phones, and all of the people who need to talk to them. It’s written in the context of software or hardware help, but many of the points covered could just as easily apply to getting assistance from a credit card company, or insurer, or other call centers: Tips for getting good customer support (via Angie Mckaig)

While we’re talking about communicating with customers, there’s a nice post over a A Penny for… that reminds us to Speak your customer’s language..

There are some places that you don’t expect to see advertising, or laws against that advertising. Looks like the Federal Aviation Agency (FAA) is going to protect us from Billboards in Space. The Federal Register entry (pdf) notes that comments on the subject are allowed until July 18, 2005. If you want to protect the right to advertise in Orbit, you need to get your comments in before that date. Seems like they make some good points though:

Objects placed in orbit, if large enough, could be seen by people around the world for long periods of time. Their visibility in the sky could have adverse effects on the general public and astronomers. Large advertisements could destroy the darkness of the night sky. Their size and light emissions could impede astronomical observations that rely on a dark celestial environment. These are the type of adverse effects that indicate advertising is obtrusive.
