New Castle Resident Wins University of Phoenix Scholarship
University of Phoenix has announced that it has awarded the Delaware Rising Star Scholarship to New Castle resident Edward D. Harrison, Sr. The award provides a high-performing student currently pursuing a degree through University of Phoenix Delaware Campus with a $4,000 scholarship to continue their studies.
Harrison, the owner of a local beauty salon, is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in human resources management in order to improve the way he runs his salon and to ensure that he provides adequate resources to his employees as he continues to grow his business. Through his studies, Harrison hopes to build the skills needed to steer his business through the rapidly changing and competitive salon and barbershop industry. Earning his bachelor’s degree is also an opportunity for Harrison to demonstrate the importance of education to his three children.
“I was looking for a way to inspire my kids to further their education, and wanted to lead by example,” says Harrison. “As a single father, it was difficult to juggle the needs of my children with those of my business and still find the time to pursue higher education. University of Phoenix’s programs and flexible schedule have been a perfect fit for me, and have given me the opportunity to pursue a degree that will give me the tools I need to be a successful part of the workforce and continue to provide for my family.”
“Edward’s commitment to improving his professional standing and inspiring his family through education is truly an inspiration,” said University of Phoenix Delaware Campus Director, Tim Gilrain. “University of Phoenix is thrilled to be able to provide Edward and other working learners the flexible scheduling options and rigorous coursework they need to excel personally and professionally.”
