Markell Keeps Delaware in the International Marketplace by Extending Agreement between The Port of Wilmington and Pacific Delaware
The Port of Wilmington, Delaware is a full-service deepwater port and marine terminal handling about 400 vessels Annually with an annual import/export cargo tonnage of over 4 million tons. Delaware’s port is the busiest terminal on the Delaware River and it is a major Mid-Atlantic import/export gateway for a wide variety of maritime cargoes and trade, such as fruit from South America.
Earlier this month, Governor Markell led a trade mission to Chile. The result was an extension of the relationship with a key partner of the Port of Wilmington.
Is his recent weekly message, Governor Jack Markell announced that he signed an agreement with a Pacific Delaware, which is affiliated with the Chilean company Pacific Seaways, for the Port of Wilmington to extend the storage and distribution of Chilean fruit in Delaware through June 30, 2014.
“Chile is a key partner for the Port of Wilmington, and that benefits everyone in Delaware. The Port employs 14,900 people and provides a critical link between Delaware companies and their markets. Employers like Fisker Automotive have cited the Port as an important reason for locating here.”
