Local High School Students Compete in Junior Achievement Career Challenge
Last week, the doors of Junior Achievement of Delaware were opened for the 2nd Annual JA Career Challenge, a student competition designed to provide students with the skills necessary to prepare for an interview and be career ready. With the help of a fellow organization, Jobs for Delaware Graduates, 50 students from Newark High School, Alexis I. duPont High School, Concord High School, and Middletown High School were recruited to compete in the event.
The students competed in four eliminating rounds that evaluated them on networking, interviewing, and personal presentation skills. Students were assessed throughout the day by professional human resource volunteers from the Delaware Chapter of Society for Human Resource Management (DESHRM). DESHRM provided Junior Achievement of Delaware with over 30 human resource professionals for the students to network with and learn valuable career skills necessary to obtain a job in our competitive market. As students were eliminated throughout the JA Career Challenge, they were given opportunities to participate in the Building a Business Network and Personal Brand workshops led by participating DESHRM volunteers.
By the fourth round of the competition, only four students remained to compete in the final interview challenge held in front of a panel of judges as well as all the participating students from the day. Congratulations to the JA Career Challenge winner, Maya Young, from Middletown High School, and to the remaining finalists and all participating students from the day.
