Lady Hawks Volleyball Racks Up Accolades as Team Heads to Districts
To say the Delaware Tech Lady Hawks soared through this season would be an understatement. The Women’s Volleyball team claimed the 2013 Region XIX Division II Volleyball title with a 3-0 victory over the County College of Morris on Saturday afternoon at Lackawanna College. Freshmen Macy Alexander, Kadijah Doughty, and Samantha Pedicone all landed in the 2013 All-Tournament Team. Pedicone was also named MVP of the tournament. The team finished their season with a 25-2 record.
The Lady Hawks came together to prove hard work and determination really do pay off. In response to winning back to back region championships in 2012 and 2013, Head Coach Cindy Savage said, “We have a great group of girls that work hard together, play hard, and push one another to reach their highest potential.” But some of the girls went above and beyond. Players Samantha Pedicone, Kadijah Doughty, and Samantha Immediato were selected to the All-Region XIX First Team and Samantha Pedicone also received Region XIX Player of the Year, NJCAA Division 2. All three players also received the honor of being named part of the Top 5 Players in the Region.
Kadijah Doughty, an elementary education major, says, “We have all the pieces to the puzzle on our team. We know what the pieces are and know exactly how to use them.”
The Lady Hawks plan to use those puzzle pieces to propel them through Districts at Community College of Rhode Island, November 9 and 10.
