International Business Luncheon on Free Trade Agreements
Questioning support of Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) has been the recent trend amongst political candidates. On the surface blocking open trade with other countries may seem a valid solution to our struggling economy, but what is the reality?
On average, countries with whom we do not have an FTA charge a 14% import duty on U.S. manufactured goods. Compare that with 0% import duty once an FTA is fully implemented, and it is easy to see which enables us to export more, and to sell more of our manufactured goods. In the meantime, the U.S. charges no duties on 70% of the goods we import.
Please join the WTCDE for their June International Business Luncheon with Walter Bastian, Deputy Assistant Secretary, U.S. Department of Commerce. Mr. Bastian will be discussing current trends in trade policy and the effect on our economy. This event is co-sponsored by the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce and the U.S. Department of Commerce.
