The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Washington, DC, was established in 1987, largely in response to draft legislation before Congress threatening to reduce Hong Kong’s textiles and garment quota. The office continued to have an active role on congressional issues likely to affect Hong Kong. The office also maintains good working relations with the US administration, including the State Department, the Department of Commerce, the US Treasury, the US Trade Representatives’ Office, the US Customs & Border Protectionand the Justice Department. The issues being dealt with include textile quota, intellectual property rights, strategic trade, World Trade Organization, APEC, trade promotion, investment protection and financial issues.
