Hagley Honors Recipients of the President’s Volunteer Service Award

Wilmington, Delaware- April 2012- Hagley Museum and Library recognizes sixty-six dedicated volunteers who will receive the President’s Service Award for their contributions in 2011. Established in 2003, the award is available on an annual basis to individuals, groups and families who have met or exceeded requirements for volunteer service and have demonstrated exemplary citizenship through volunteering.

“Hagley Museum and Library thanks these volunteers and the hundreds more that volunteer at Hagley,” says Volunteer Coordinator Angela Williamson. “We appreciate your dedication and help.”

Volunteering at Hagley

Volunteers play an integral part in fulfilling the mission of Hagley. They provide support, expertise, time, experience, ideas, and energy. Hagley’s 2011 volunteer staff consisted of 375 adults and 102 teens who gave a total of 19,683 hours last year.

About the Award

The President’s Volunteer Service Award is a national honor offered in recognition of volunteer service. To be eligible to receive the award, individuals, families and groups submit a record of their annual volunteer service hours to participating Certifying Organizations that will verify the service and deliver the award. Award eligibility for individuals and groups is based on hour requirements varying by age.

The award is issued by the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation, a group created by President Bush to recognize the valuable contributions volunteers are making to our Nation.
