Free Introduction to Patents Seminar Hosted by Womble Carlyle’s Jim Lennon

Womble Carlyle attorney Jim Lennon will teach a free course on “Introduction to Patents.” The event takes place on April 8 at the coIN Loft in Wilmington.

Lennon will identify what a patent is, what it protects, who can get them, how you get them (i.e., the back-and-forth patenting process with an examiner at the US Patent & Trade Office), what it might cost to get them (Patent Office fees and attorney fees), when an inventor should seek to get a patent, how long the patent application process takes and what’s involved, how long patent rights last (and compare to other IP rights), the benefits of patent ownership, some myths and misconceptions about patent ownership, what kinds of notes and documentation an inventor should keep during the inventive process, what prior publication or prior offers for sale may do to destroy an inventor’s potential to obtain patent rights, and whatever other questions the class may have.

The event begins at 6:30 p.m., with a 5:30 p.m. happy hour/mixer.
