Doing Well while Doing Good
The Marines have been protecting this country for 233 years as of today. Congratulations to the Corps! With Veterans Day so near to the Marines Birthday we should all reflect on the service of these gallant men and women.
Enlisting in the Marines is a service to your country, and when well led and motivated by our political class, a service to the world. A career in the Marines has led to a second career as an entrepreneur for many. We don’t get as many Marine retirees here in Delaware as we do Air Force, but I have known enough to be able to generalize that these are self motivated, resourceful people and those are just some of the reasons they make great entrepreneurs.
A young man who enlists at age 18 could have 20 years in by age 38 and start receiving benefits. These benefits allow the freedom to pursue starting a business in Delaware. This cuts out some of the worries that entrepreneurs face, such as;
- Retirement funding.
- Health Care funding.
- What if it fails?
- Where will I get support?
The SBA has programs specifically designed to help turn veterans into entrepreneurs. Of course, the other great option is to get a job with the State and work another 20 there. Two pensions are twice as nice.
So congratulations Marines on your 223rd birthday. We wish you all success!
