Delaware Tech to Offer a Variety of Camps for Youth with Focus on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics
Delaware Technical Community College will offer nearly 50 youth camps this summer at campuses statewide expected to serve approximately 1,000 students in support of Governor Markell’s STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) initiative.
The Delaware STEM Council was formed in 2010 to ensure Delaware’s children graduate more ready to succeed in the high-wage jobs of tomorrow. The youth camps, some for children as young as four and some aimed at teenagers up to 15, are designed to make learning fun and exciting and to encourage students to explore careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Crime Scene Investigation, Little Scientists, Magical Travel into the Human Body, Number Brianpower, Sid the Science Kid Comes to Kamp, Video Games: Behind the Scenes, Engineers R Us, Wonders of Web Design, and Mythbusters are examples of camps designed to stimulate interest in STEM areas.
The College is involved in a number of efforts to improve STEM education through academic programs and connected degree agreements with the University of Delaware and Delaware State University. A strong STEM workforce helps Delaware employers continue to be national leaders in the innovation economy, seek out employees who can strengthen their research and development, make their workplaces more efficient, and ensure their business practices are more environmentally sensitive.
Delaware Tech is also offering a wide variety of special interest camps including American Girl, Let’s Dance! Hip Hop and More, Outdoor Skills, Beginning Spanish, Digital Photography, Cake Decorating and Comic Book Illustration.
A wide range of sports camps are also being offered, including soccer, cheerleading, tennis, kayak and sail, basketball, volleyball, and field hockey and much more!
