Delaware Tech FY 2014 Budget Presentation to the Joint Finance Committee
Today, Delaware Technical Community College presented its Fiscal Year 2014 Operating Budget request to the Joint Finance Committee at Legislative Hall in Dover.
President Orlando J. George, Jr. updated the committee on the College’s continuing commitment to connect Delawareans with jobs by delivering responsive and relevant programs, leveraging partnerships, and maximizing resources.
The presentation highlighted the College’s new academic offerings which are strategically aligned with the Governor’s Jobs Plan and include Environmental Engineering Technology, Science Education – Chemistry/Physics, Electronic Health Records Specialist, Sustainable Landscaping, and Energy Efficient Manufacturing.
Dr. George spoke of the College’s partnerships with government and industry highlighting the success of the Delaware Manufacturing Extension Partnership (DEMEP) in growing and maintaining manufacturing jobs and the plan to expand Delaware Tech’s Aviation Maintenance program to prepare students to maintain the powerplant (engine) of an airplane.
The College requested support of the Governor’s recommended budget which includes continued funding and authorization for the College’s current General Fund positions and funding for another year of the SEED Scholarship Program.
The College requested a stable and reliable funding source for the nursing and allied health programs expansion, and funding for six faculty positions and four instructional support positions.
