Delaware Tech, DEMEP and DMA Celebrate Modern Manufacturing

Delaware Technical Community College, The Delaware Manufacturing Extension Partnership (DEMEP) and the Delaware Manufacturing Association (DMA) came together in response to Governor Jack Markell’s proclamation of Delaware Manufacturing Week (Sept. 29-Oct 3), which coincides with National Manufacturing Day, October 3. The weeklong celebration of manufacturing in Delaware was created to recognize that manufacturing has a powerful and positive impact on Delaware’s economy.

Governor Markell visited Delaware Tech’s Innovation and Technology Center on Monday to introduce the proclamation to an Accelerated Pathways class. The two-year program is designed for Delaware high school juniors and seniors, and provides them with the skills and certifications they need to start a career immediately upon graduation.

“Delaware Tech is proud to work with the DMA and other partners to educate the next generation of modern manufacturing workers in Delaware – from high school students to adult learners,” said Dr. Mark T. Brainard, president of Delaware Tech.

“DMA appreciates Governor Markell’s recognition of Delaware’s manufacturers and their contributions to the economy,” said Mitch Magee, director of engineering for PPG Industries and current chair of DMA.

DEMEP and DMA worked to organize tours for high school and college students at several manufacturers statewide. These tours will serve to show the many career opportunities open to Delaware high school students and the value of a technical education. Students from middle schools, high schools and colleges, as well as guests were matched with manufacturers for these tours. The manufacturers are proud to show their modern, high-tech workspaces and value they bring to the Delaware economy and local communities.

These manufacturers include:
• Eagle Group, Dover, DE
• Berach Homes, Milford, DE
• Bloom Energy, Newark, DE
• FujiFilm, New Castle, DE
• PPG, Dover, DE
• DEMEP, Newark, DE
• Miller Metal, Milford, DE
• Delaware City Refinery, Delaware City, DE
