Delaware Park Joines the Food Drive
The Delaware Food Bank has seen its resources challenged by many events this fall. A truck full of food was stolen, and the Food Bank had to pay to have it cleaned up. Claims on its services are increasing due to the financial mess and its donors are under stress as well.
Here is an example of a business enlisting its customers to help.
Delaware Park’s customers donated nearly two tons of food to help feed hungry people throughout Delaware and the company matched customer contributions during its December food drive by donating $4,000 to the Food Bank of Delaware.
Between the December food drive and a similar effort in November, Delaware Park customers donated 7,300 pounds of food to the Food Bank.
Delaware Park, (www.delawarepark.com), the Delaware Valley’s premier racetrack and gaming venue, supported the drives by offering 10 free slot dollars to customers who donate canned goods to the Food Bank. Delaware Park also matched customer contributions during the December drive by donating $1 to the Food Bank for every pound of food collected.
“Our customers responded generously this holiday season. We are pleased we can help the Food Bank of Delaware achieve its mission of feeding people in need throughout our state,” said Andrew Gentile, General Manager at Delaware Park.
The Food Bank of Delaware is a nonprofit agency that distributes food through over 335 member agencies. It is the only facility in Delaware with the equipment, warehouse and staff to collect donations safely from all sectors of the food industry and efficiently redistribute them to those who need it most.
