Delaware Court Of Chancery 101
It is no secret that the State of Delaware has the most widely recognized business courts in the country. You’d be hard pressed to find any law school in the nation that didn’t use The Delaware Court of Chancery as the model for which for teaching the practice of corporate law and litigation is based. After all, this is where the determination of disputes involving the internal affairs of countless number of Delaware corporations and other business entities occurs. Its reputation for fast and fair dealing with business issues is second to none.
What you may not know is how the court grew from it’s roots into the premier global business court.
William T. Quillen and Michael Hanrahan wrote the SHORT HISTORY OF THE DELAWARE COURT OF CHANCERY–1792-1992 to commemorate the 200th Anniversary of the Court of Chancery of the State of Delaware in 1992. I found the re-print at the Delaware Corporate Law Clearinghouse website, a co-operative Project of Widener University School of Law Legal Information Center, Stanford University School of Law and the Delaware Court of Chancery.
