Delaware Company Granted Patent for Laboratory on Wheels
Bring service to the point of care, reduce cost and improve overall service? That sounds like a good thing. Almost like healthcare reform…
Doctors Pathology Services, the largest anatomic pathology service in Delaware, located in Dover, was recently approved for U.S. Patent for a mobile laboratory service, announced Saturday at a celebratory event at Dover Downs Hotel & Casino.
Mobile Intraoperative Consultation Service, or MICS, is an alternative to hospital-based anatomic pathology services, traveling to ambulatory surgery centers, diagnostic imaging centers, physicians and hospitals. It is similar to the point of care service provided by clinical laboratories in physician offices and urgent care centers. However, the laboratory on wheels is built in a van the size of a typical delivery truck. MICS provides a range of medical specialties, including dermatology, urology, and gastroenterology, among others. It also allows the pathologist to consult with and market directly to physicians, as well as to meet with patients.
