Copyright and Trademark Law the Focus of Program for Communications Pros
Delaware Press Association invites communications professionals and members of the public to take part in A Primer on Copyright and Trademark Law for Communicators on Thursday, September 27, 2012. Alan E. Garfield, Distinguished Professor of Law, and Sonia Baldia, Associate Professor of Law, both of Widener University, will present a fast-paced, fact-filled briefing on the safety net of copyright and trademark law as they pertain to communicators in all industries. This free event begins with networking at 6:30 p.m., followed by a 90-minute program beginning at 7:00 p.m. in The Ruby Vale Moot Courtroom at Widener University School of Law, 4601 Concord Pike, Wilmington, Delaware. Alan Garfield writes and teaches in the areas of Constitutional Law, Copyright and Contracts. He will highlight how copyright protects the creations of authors, including novelists, journalists, photographers, web content creators, filmmakers, artists, musicians and others, and their right to control the reproduction, distribution, performance and adaptation of their works, looking at how communicators both protect their works and respect others’ works.
Sonia Baldia teaches and writes in the areas of intellectual property, business organizations, and international business transactions and technology transfer. She will discuss how trademark law protects words, phrases, symbols or devices used to indicate the source of a good or service, looking at how trademarks protect consumers and merchants as well as brands.
