Comcast Recognizes Irrelevance of CN8
The Newark Star Ledger is reporting the demise of CN8. Here in Delaware, this channel is known only as the startup channel for Comcast Cable System. If I ever heard the word “Delaware” on CN8 it was in reference to a river or a county. CN8 covers the entire northeast corridor. Comcast plans to split this operation into two separate channels, one covering Philly – Pittsburgh and the other covering Baltimore – Washington. This makes more sense than including it for all of the northeast since they primarily covered those areas anyway.
So good riddance. I wonder what channel they will have the box start up on now?

I enjoyed some of the shows that I had seen on CN8, but I probably wouldn’t have watched them if CN8 wasn’t the startup channel for Comcast in the area.
It would have been nice if they had more Delaware specific programming. I do recall some interviews with people from Delaware, and some nice concert broadcasts on the channel.
Hopefully the new startup channel will be the channel that you stopped watching when you turned the TV off last.
Bill, thanks for the comments.
I agree. They should have a CN8 style station for each market over 500,000 people (That would include Wilmington as separate from Philly). But I think the real issue here is cost.
So many news origination outlets are closing down or consolidating I fear we will end up with a less informed public – if that is possible.
Oh, and that is a good idea about start-up being shut-down.
