BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF DELAWARE CAPITAL CAMPAIGN GETS UNDERWAY UNDER LEADERSHIP OF DUPONT’S ELLEN KULLMAN

A joint and collaborative $10 million two phase multi-year capital campaign will be announced with a launch event at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, February 5, at the H. Fletcher Brown Boys & Girls Club, 1601 N. Spruce Street, Wilmington, DE.

The launch event will feature remarks by Chair of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of DuPont Company, Ellen Kullman, Chairman of the Boys & Girls Clubs’ Capital Campaign; Martha Carper, Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware Board Chairman; and George Krupanski, Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware President and CEO.

The Capital Campaign will benefit Clubs located in fourteen different towns and cities across the state and will involve over 150 board members at the state and local board levels. The organization feels that a joint organized campaign, rather than fourteen separate campaigns, will be more cost effective, build stronger working relationships among the 150 state and local board members in the various communities, and achieve a more successful end result.

The Boys & Girls Clubs will significantly step up its efforts in the area of educational attainment for disadvantaged youth across the state. This will be done through three major initiatives.

  • Renovate and update current facilities ($2.5 million)
  • Expand/add new Dover facility ($4.5 million)
  • Raise/generate special Project funds ($3 million)
  • The Capital Campaign Committee is being chaired by Ellen Kullman, Chair of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of DuPont Company. Other Campaign Committee members include Mark Turner, Bill Willis, Rick Downs, John Hollis, Ed Dulin, Jennings Hastings, Charles Gummey, Robert Carpenter, Martha Carper, Don Kirtley, Gregg Bacchieri, Bob Byrd, Lewis Lazarus, Peter Stone, and Mike DiLeo.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware is part of a nationwide movement whose mission is to inspire and enable all young people to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens. The Clubs provide vital youth development services for more than 20,000 children ages six through 20. The 42 Clubs and school sites are conveniently located where such programs are limited or nonexistent. With additional resources, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware could expand into additional un-served areas to serve even more children in need.
