AstraZeneca Spares Delaware Jobs
The press release headline reads “AstraZeneca to Realign Supply Chain to Improve Productivity and Move Closer to Customers”. When I saw that, I thought, here we go again with job losses in the US, maybe Delaware. But no, this time the closings are a bit further away from home.
AstraZeneca will exit three sites, in Porrińo in Spain, Destelbergen in Belgium and Umeĺ in Sweden; there will be roles affected at its facilities in Macclesfield in the UK and Södertälje in Sweden. These moves will result in a net reduction across the business of 1400 positions by 2013, subject to local consultation.
Not that they are adding operations in the US, they are investing in the plant in Wuxi, China to support the company’s continuing growth in the Asia Pacific markets. There appears to be no change in the price tag already announced for these restructurings.
