And the Entrepreneur of the Year is…
The success of our local and regional economy is based on the success of people in businesses that have a vision and are willing to take risks to turn their vision into reality. Each year the New Castle County Chamber of Commerce recognizes two outstanding members who have exemplified the entrepreneurial spirit and is proud to present the Entrepreneur of the Year and Entrepreneurial Advocate of the Year Award. The purpose of these awards is to not only recognize business success right here in New Castle County but to pause for a moment and celebrate the entrepreneurial spirit.
So who claims the prize?
Top honors for Entrepreneur of the Year go to Greg Gurev of MySherpa. If you have ever used the services of MySherpa, then you know Greg, and this award probably comes as no surprise. In January 2001 he created MySherpa to address an underserved need in the computer services market. Greg is also active on the board of the Technology Forum of Delaware and kinfolkkids.org.
Also being honored is Jayne Armstrong of the SBA for Entrepreneurial Advocate of the Year and Mary Sheldon of Christiana Bank & Trust Company for Ambassador of the Year.

I am deeply honored by the New Castle Chamber of Commerce as the 2009 Entrepreneur of the Year. I am honored to follow in the footsteps of other winners, such as John Ratliff and Robert Buccini. I speak for my team of Sherpas, as I thank you wholeheartedly for celebrating this recognition with us!
Having worked with my MySherpa for over 5 years, I can say first hand that you and your team are top-notch. Keep up the great work!
Congratulations are in order to Greg Gurev who is the NCCCC Entrpreneur of the Year and Jayne Armstrong, the Chamber’s Advocate. Both are certainly deserving recipients!
What is frustrating is that I have not talked to a chamber member who knows what the “process” was for determining the honorees this year. Nothing was posted on the website regarding the nomination process or that the chamber was even looking for nominees. What information was to be included in the nomination? When was the submission deadline? Who was reviewing the applications and making the winning determination? A membership organization must give all its members the opportunity to participate and your website is the place to post this information where members can go to learn the details. Transparency is critical!
